An old showerhead can have so many issues. Water might not flow too well through it, it might leak or it could just be that it is ugly. But, fortunately for you, replacing an old showerhead is not very complicated.

Your first step will be choosing what type of showerhead you want. You can get a fixed showerhead or one that has a removable sprayer. You can get one that has massage options as well as lighter pressure for those that prefer that.

Once you have picked your showerhead, you can get started. It is important to begin by turning off the water supply, just in case of a mishap. You don’t want to have a busted pipe gushing out water into your bathroom.

Next, get started removing the old showerhead. Don’t use too much force. If the showerhead is rusted on the pipe, you might want to abort and get some professional help, since too much force could damage the pipe.

On the other hand, if you can unscrew it without trouble, give the pipe a good cleaning, put some silicone tape on the thread, and attach your new showerhead.

Where do you get your power from? If you are connected to the electrical grid, you probably have a mixture of sources for power, and you are paying for it. Have you ever wanted to get out of paying for power? It is actually a possibility, especially with solar power getting more and more affordable. The technology has advanced to the point where it can pay for itself in a relatively short time. So, if you are thinking of taking full control over your power supply, there has never been a better time. Of course, you would need to decide how much you will invest in switching to solar. To be completely self-sufficient, you would most likely need around 30 solar panels, give or take a few. This can be a large investment, and take up a lot of space, so you might just decide to have your power partially supplied by solar. Some homeowners have started small to increase over time until they have enough to be 100% powered by solar. Others just bit the bullet and got it all over with at one time. How you choose to do it would depend on your budget and long-term plans.

Are you a killer? Hopefully, you answer no to that question, but maybe you are a weed killer or even a pest killer around your own home. Pesticides are usually made from very potent chemicals, and even though they might come labeled as safe for humans, that doesn’t mean that you should treat them with less care.

If you choose to use pesticides, you should be careful when applying them. Cover your skin well, wear protective glasses and a face mask. That way you are less likely to get exposed. You should also avoid applying pesticides on days when it is windy since they could end up in your neighbor’s yard.

If you have children, you need to make sure you keep the pesticides out of their reach. Keeping them in a locked cabinet or on a high shelf will prevent them from having any tragic accidents with pesticides. You should also make sure that any bottle containing pesticides is clearly marked.

How much room do you have in your closets? In many homes, closet space is at a premium. It could be that the builders didn’t want to make the home look smaller by having a lot of closets, but that is just a major inconvenience when you have to live in the home. You might end up having your home a lot more cluttered than you would like, or your closet might become so full that you have a hard time to find anything that you need.

Of course, the quick and simple fix would be to just add some closets to your home, but that will either require the purchase of stand-alone units, which could get costly, or a rebuild of your home that can get costly and disrupt your life for quite a while.

A cheaper method could be to make use of storage in locations that you might not think of. Getting a storage container on wheels will let you keep things under the bed easily. If you have clothes that you do not use a lot, you could get them vacuum-packed. There are some bags that work with a regular vacuum cleaner, compressing them for easier storage.

You probably don’t get up in your attic very often. For most homeowners, the attic is just a storage space for things that they want to get out of the way. Unfortunately, this means that space is wasted in your home just to have a stair leading up into the attic. In some homes, this is avoided by installing an attic pull-down ladder instead. This way the additional space a stair takes can be used for more living space instead.

Having an attic pull-down ladder does mean that you need to be aware of the limitations that it comes with, however.

For one thing, the ladder will only be as secure as the frame that it is mounted in. There need to be sufficiently long nails attaching the ladder to the frame, or it could come loose when weight is put on it. If the ladder is too long, excessive stress could be put on the joint where the ladder folds, causing it to break.

You should avoid climbing the ladder with a heavy load, instead, you should have heavy items handed to you to place in the attic.

Do you have more time on your hands than ever before? That has been the case for many people around the country as shelter-in-place and stay-at-home orders are forcing them to avoid going out to restaurants and movies. So what do you choose to do with your time?

Many of the streaming video services have needed to lower the quality they provide for their streams since so many people have been using them, but there are better things to do with your time than binge-watching movies and tv-shows, especially as a homeowner.

You probably have several projects around the house that have been put off in the past, and what better time will you get to take care of them than now? While some projects might be outside of your expertise, you will be amazed at what can be accomplished with the extra time you have at home. As long as you have the right tools and materials available to you, you can accomplish great things.

Cleaning your home is probably something that you have a lot of experience with, but in the current situation, some extra work might be involved to make sure that you keep yourself and your family healthy. The COVID-19 virus is causing people around the world to buy cleaning materials at a much higher rate than normal, and most stores have empty aisles where there once were plenty of cleaning chemicals and tools. Even if you don’t have many visitors in your home, it is definitely worth your time and effort to clean a little extra than usual, especially commonly touched surfaces such as door handles, light switches, faucet handles and anything else that could easily get contaminated. You should be more aware than usual of where you go and what you touch since you could spread the virus from one spot to the next and unknowingly infect someone in your home. It is especially important when you come in from a trip to the store where you might have interacted with a contaminated surface.

How is your home wired? Most of us probably have no idea of what it looks like, but your electrical wiring could have a huge impact on your life. For example, some homes have very antiquated wiring that is prone to shorts and even electrical fires. Since we all rely to a large extent on electricity for our everyday activities, it is important that your wiring is in good shape.

If you notice a lot of brownouts in your home, you should check with the neighbors to ascertain whether or not this is a problem only for you or for others as well. If it is just you, consulting an electrician is your best next step. While some might feel that they have some experience in electrical wiring and should be able to take care of the problems themselves, there are many things out there that only a properly trained electrician can take care of.

Termites are probably the best known wood damaging insects in the world. While there are plenty of other varieties of bugs that do bore through wood and could infect your home, termites do more damage in a shorter period of time. The problem with termites lies in the fact that they can be difficult to detect before they have done major damage to your home. In as little as a few years, it is possible to have structural damage to your home if termites are left unchecked, so it is important to be on the lookout for signs that they are in the area.

Some of the more obvious signs can’t usually be noticed until extensive damage has already been done. There are some early warning signs that can be easier to spot however. If you notice swarming termites in the spring, or their shed wings near your home, you should contact an exterminator immediately. You can also check for mud tunnels climbing up the side of your foundation. Knocking on wooden sections of your home and checking for sawdust can also give you a hint that something is up.

Having your own well gives you control over the water in your home, but it also comes with many possible headaches. Often, the water that you have in your well will need some treatment before it is usable. Mineral deposits and gasses are very common with well water. It is also important to have your well water tested regularly, since conditions can change over time. While there are test kits that you can buy, these usually don’t give you a good enough picture of the water quality. It is better to send a water sample to a lab where they can test it for you.

You should know where your well is located, since you need to keep the area safe. Chemicals that spill on the ground above the well could seep down into your water, contaminating it. Avoid parking vehicles on top of the well since they could leak gas, oil or coolant there.
