Mosquitoes can be super irritating when you’re trying to enjoy your backyard, and they can also carry diseases. If you are having a problem with mosquitoes, here are a few ways to help you to reduce your mosquito population.
The first way is to inspect your yard for any standing water. Even a small amount can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes. So look for water in tree holes, outdoor flower pot saucers, clogged rain gutters, or discarded cans and containers. Bird baths can also be breeding grounds for mosquitoes, so try to change the water weekly. There are also products available to treat your ponds or water gardens.
The next way is to plant mosquito repellent plants. Some examples of these plants are rosemary, bee balm, marigolds, citronella, and lavender. Mosquitoes do not like these plants.
Another way is to invite more mosquito predators into your yard by installing a bat or bird house. Bats love to eat mosquitoes and so do some birds. This could also be a fun family project by building a bat or bird house yourself.
These are just a few ways to help you to reduce your mosquito population, and so that you are able to fully enjoy your backyard.
